• GSM USB modem drivers
• i couldn’t see any WPA encrypted wireless networks
• there was no wireless network detection tool so i couldn’t understand how to “scan for wireless networks” (as the windows equivalent would have sounded)
• open office vs. ms office (open office 2.6 could not open “docx” files) discrepancies
• gimp vs. photoshop discrepancies

At the moment i was not in that point where i would allow myself to understand that the same problem can be successfully approached from many angles, i was expecting that if a problem had a solution  (be it present on my computer or not yet installed) it would have the same approach as it’s windows counterpart.

I lasted 4-5 months with those problems and frustration built up at moments when i could not use the internet in a WPA enabled hot-spot (at my girlfriends house for example) add to that the fact that my girlfriend needed SPSS on Windows and i needed Photoshop i finally installed windows.

Ubuntu 9.10 solved the following issues for me:

• ICON225 GSM USB modem (from Orange Romania) is automatically recognized (on windows you have to wait for the modem to install its own driver, Ubuntu has it pre-installed with no help from the manufacturers), K3520 GSM USB modem (from Vodafone Romania) needs a little nudge (the driver is pre-installed, you just have to hit “safely remove” for the attached memory-disk).
• WPA encrypted wireless networks are automatically visible no additional software needed (2 days before Ubuntu 9.10 was released i took the time to find out how to make Ubuntu 8.10 read WPA encrypted wireless networks and it was pretty simple really just installing “wpa_supplicant”, better late than never huh?)
• I got the point regarding wireless network detection tools there are some if you really can’t detach yourself from that concept but the standard Ubuntu approach is just plain different and there’s nothing wrong with that. More specifficaly, any action you take under GNOME refreshes the environment automatically, you don’t have to hit refresh manually, by analogy, the network manager tool GNOME provides doesn’t need a big old manual “SCAN FOR WIRELESS NETWORKS” button, it scans constantly and keeps the list up to date the selection menu can even show the connecting-to-this-network animation which means it can even show an intermediate status of your connection.
• open office 3.0 now knows how to open docx file (it still ruins complex visual formatting but when i need ms office i use a virtual machine install of windows)
• photoshop i just haven’t needed it that much (and when i did i use a virtual machine install of windows)

I now tried an USB-Bluetooth-Receiver and it instantly worked, i then tried an USB-Wireless-Receiver and it instantly worked; both items on windows would have needed an install disk with the driver plus some control software, on Ubuntu it’s pre-installed, integrated, and native (i conected to my phone via bluetooth and it got mounted as a network drive that you can acces with Nautilus the default GNOME filesystem explorer).

On the other hand my cousin recently installed Ubuntu 9.10 on his laptop (which does not have a wireless card), we tested the internet connection at my place and configured some stuff he went back home.

Unfortunately he was at his first attempt at using linux and he clearly didn’t have “that frame of mind” that allows you to accept 1) working for a necessary solution (that windows already solves)  2) to accept the fact that a problem can be approached differently, the look-n-feel may seam to be the same but the work-flow and order of operations needed to fulfill a task can be entirely different. His breaking point was configuring his home internet which used PPPoE (from his ISP, RDS Romania) so he bleached the Ubuntu install after just a few days. I found out that the problem was a known (and solved) bug in the network-manager.

So, why did i write this shit? Basically because i tested the USB-Bluetooth-Receiver and the USB-Wireless-Receiver and the friggin worked!

Un cretin in mod constient si deliberat, a circulat pe contrasensul autostrazi A1.

Nimic deosebit, probabil ca am vazut si chestiuni mai rele, doar ca la un moment dat ti se umple paharul.

Omul normal indignat isi va spune: “Selectia naturala ne va scapa intr-un tarziu de acel neg al societatii”.

Crud este ca cel mai probabil nu va pleca singur catre luma ailalta, va lua cel putin pasagerii lui daca nu mai mult.

Drepturi stangace

Neajunsurile prostiei si nesimtirii, sunt tot mai mult imbratisate ca diversitate culturala, si protejate de egalitatea drepturilor si de politicile sociale (sincer sa fiu nu-mi place gandul ca procent din salariul meu ii va plati si cretinului ala pensia, daca nu il ia dumnezeu cu el mai devreme).

Drepturile omului spun ca omul bun este egal cu omul rau din principiu, iar destinul si-l scrie fiecare, pe merite si pe eforturile sale. Uitam totusi ca meritocratia in societatea noastra e departe de a face valuri. Virtutea nu este insuflata si stimulata, dimpotriva este ridiculizata si infranta la fiecare colt.

Educatia este pur si simplu o gluma, si fara educatie nu e de mirare ca meritocratia si virtutea sunt luxuri pe care si le permit doar cei ce au acces la ele de altundeva.

Ajungem astfel la concluzia ca nu toti oamenii rai sunt rai, dar ca intr-o societate in care nu e necesar sa muncesti ca sa obtii ce vrei, e usor sa te complaci in nesimtirea, ignoranta si inconstienta ta.

Cand aspiratia ta cea mai adanca este sa faci cel mai tampit lucru de pe youtube, e logic ca nu traiesti pentru a-ti vedea nepotii corespondenti academici la Sorbona.

Consecinte

Daca un sistem educational nu poate educa cum se cuvine generatiile viitoare, iar generatiile deja trecute de acel moment nu au fost educate corect, cum ar putea un stat sa tina sub control situatia?

Cand situatia scapa de sub control blandetea, politetea, amabilitatea si politicile sociale n-au ce cauta!

Marirea punctului de amenda de la 15% din salariul minim pe economie la vreo 175% din salariul minim pe economie. Ar fi o chestie nu credeti? Un pas micut intr-o directie singulara, siguranta rutiera. Dar cred ca e important, sa-ti fie frica s-o calci ca te-ar si ustura chiar daca ai un BMW.

Marirea sentintei pentru omor prin imprudenta (nu involuntar, imprudent!) de la 8 ani la 25 de ani?

Marirea sentintei pentru omor calificat de la 25 de ani la 80 de ani (+).

Marirea sentintei pentru escrocherii si fraude de la 8-12 de ani la 30 de ani.

Reinstaurarea pedepsei cu moarta? Ca principiu nu sunt deacord, ca efect ar fi o gura de aer in plamanii umanitatii toata lumea stie ca viteza medie a unei turme de bizoni este data de viteza celui mai lent bizon din turma. Analog putem spune ca nivelul de prostie/coruptie/nesimtire/inconstienta este dat de cel mai inconstient individ aflat in viata/libertate. Ca sa nu mai spunem de ridicarea mediei de IQ a omenirii.

Instaurarea votului censitar? O suma cvasimodica, astfel incat la vot ajung doar cei care se preocupa de treaba asta, cei care fac un mic efort pentru libertatea lor. Ca daca libertatea e moca, si marfa de pe raft in magazin trebuie sa fie tot moca, si placerile vietii tot moca, iei de unde vrei pentru ca esti liber sa faci ce vrei.

Ok exagerez cu pedeapsa cu moartea si votul censitar, dar adevarul este ca sistemele de guvernamant de toate tipurile au esuat datorita inadaptarii la coruptibilitatea umana, fie din cauza puterii fie din cauza mizeriei, orice extrema duce la coruptie, pana si traiul bun fara mult efort duce la coruptia ignorantei a nesimtirii si a complacerii de sine.

Si-atunci nu ar trebuii sa luam in calcul toate posibilitatile de imbunatatire/inasprire a sistemului? Chiar si pe cele absurde?

O propunere considerata absurda si neluata in calcul din cauza principiilor care provoaca problema, formeaza un cerc vicios.

Pentru mine este clar ca nu as condamna un om la moarte… dar tare mi-ar placea sa dorm noaptea stiind ca daca cineva intra in casa peste mine, pot sa-l omor. Si ca incet in timp se subtiaza randurile nesimtimii.

As vrea sa stiu ca oamenii care nelegiuiesc stau pe ganduri serios inainte sa faca ce vor sa faca. Si de-ar fi s-un babau in dulap precum scaunul electric, as fi chiar linistit.

Şi alte utopii

Poate ca solutia mai buna este izolarea… grupuri umane bazate pe exilarea oricarui nelegiuitor.

Daca stau bine sa ma gandesc cand te nasti n-ai de ales cu privire la legile locului, iar puterea celor 1% din populatie care-si doresc ca omorul sa fie legal este insignifianta. Asa ca normal ar fi sa aleaga sa isi petreaca zilele intr-o societate unde omorul este legal, nu o inchisoare, nu pe banii nostrii, nu intretinuti, solo.

Cel ce nu este deacord cu legile unei tari ar trebuii sa aibe de ales daca sa le respecte sau sa plece… nu sa le respecte sau puscarie, vrei legile locului hai cu noi, vrei alte legi, mai da un tur de imprejurimi satu de criminali e dincolo de dealurile alea!

3rd. decide what CSS selectors to use. jQuery uses CSS selectors to ”grab” the object(s) you need.
* I may want to apply the background to a speciffic object reffered to by ID and the CSS selector necesary to find that object will be ”#id”
* I may want to apply the background to a speciffic type of objects reffered to by TAGNAME and the CSS selector necesary to find that array of objects will be ”div”
* I may want to apply the background to a speciffic class of objects reffered to by CLASS and the CSS selector necesary to find that array of objects will be ”.classname”
* jQuery accepts even complex CSS selectors, and also has extra pseudo-clases that CSS does not have, in case you know your CSS well.

4th. write the JavaScript commands in the <head> section, bellow the other <script> tags

5th. All the elements that get a transparent background are included in the class ”.transBG” so if you insert data into your page via AJAX you will need to call $(”.transBG”).each(function() {$(this).transBGredraw();}); to redraw every one of the objects that have a transparent backround, or you could call the redraw function only for the elements that the AJAX affects.

6th. You can modiffy the CSS of the transparent background by calling the method transBGdraw() with an argument like this $(”#myobject”).transBGdraw({’z-index’:’5’, ’background-color’:’#f00’, ’opacity’:’0.20’}); or by adding settings to your CSS for the element that has the id=”myobjectTransBG”.

7th. The transparent background effect is created by adding an object behind the data-object that needs the background. The data-object needs to have an ID so that the ID of the background object cand be set as ”initialID”+”TransBG”.

8th. Known issues: The transparent BG object will be correctly placed behind the desired object only if the object has natural or flowing positioning. If you position your object with absolute positioning and z-index settings you will need to match the z-index setting for the background object.
